Just recently I completed a mystery about a girl who discovers a cryptic note inside a geocache. View pictures of sites that inspired scenes in the story, below. My current WIPs include a second novel - an Internet adventure tale - involving the same characters.

Named after the state dinosaur of New Jersey, this cache, called "Hadrosaurus foulkii #3 The Dinosaur," actually held some authentic 150-million-year-old dinosaur bones. Somehow I entered the site's coordinates incorrectly, so that my GPS receiver placed it in Canada, instead of New Jersey, but we eventually found it.

This shot pictures Zachary's Pizza in Oakland, CA, which inspired the pizzeria Erin and Dev visited in Beauville. No, we didn't find the nearby cache, and yes, we treated ourselves to too many slices of the heavenly interwoven layers of dough, sauce, and melted cheese.

Even with a copy of this photo in my hand, I still failed to locate this cache. I wish I could blame it on interference with the GPS signal due to the trees, but I'm afraid it had more to do with my poor sense of direction. At least I could sympathize with Erin when she couldn't find the diary in the library.

The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, where I imagined Dev losing his GPS in the murky green water.

The split-level that served as the model for Mrs. Kelsey's house.
